Runtiles 2010 Upgrade Project

Post by Snake Man » 2009-07-23 17:21:38

Okay guys, its now 2009 and we are still running the ancient 2001 dating runtiles batch alchemy method of creating tiles for our terrains.

I think its time to for a change... we need a brand new set of tools to create the tiles!

I'm now proposing that first we as community use google and search all around the net for all kinds of image resizing and color palette adjusting solutions found from the web. These could be anything; ready to be used utils, free or commercial, source codes, code snippets, scripts, what ever. Anything that gets the job done. If anyone finds something, please post the links / names into this topic.

It would be ideal if there are already some solutions like tools that can resize images in batch mode (I know irfanview can do this already) but even better if they handle the T tiles fartiles thingy for us.

If everything else fails and we have to make something of our own, then naturally we should aim high and create tool that just takes your H tile and generates anything necessary from this file then, taking into consideration the texture.bin tile-sets and all. But ok lets not get ahead of ourselfs but first find out if there are tools to be use already made by someone else.

So please, take your time in google and search for some utils and paste links / results here.

Thank you.

Bit disappointed that besides ccc's misunderstanding of the topic's purpose... nobody has posted anything :(

I used ImageMagick to create fartiles palette pcx file. This is the command line I used:

Code: Select all

convert -append HFARMD42.pcx HFORR24A.pcx HFORR241.pcx HFORR20F.pcx HCITY81A.PCX HCOST000.PCX xfartile.pcx
Works pretty nice.

Its been a while when I did that so can't remember was there a problem or something to use this tool as straight up runtiles alchemy.exe replacement, need to check it out.

I was going to say that please post any links for good utils/ideas, but I guess its waste of time...

BaldEagle just created a tool that takes 10 minutes to run, creates Fartiles from the H Tiles and is not in PCX. After the release of FF5.5.2, which we are using to test it, I'll provide it to anyone that wants it.
