Working on a new tool.

Post by Phoenix711 » 2009-03-13 10:05:03

Hi all.

The new tool will do this:

You create a variaton tile etc, but this time the tile is not just a tile, but a group of tiles, for example, 4x4.

The tool will scan the 4byte terrain l2 file, and find the appropriate places (consisting of the selection set of tiles of your choice), and if the 4x4 place is all set with the tiles you put in the config file as REPLACABLE TILES, it will put the tile set completely to that 4x4 area.

Sorry for my poor english, I better try to explain this by a pictuıre and config example.

I've a big area of google earth tiles, the tiles set is layed like

2 tile (left trimmed)
4 tile
4 tile
4 tile

It is a big area. This area will randomly go into farm tiles, but you don't want to put it on Road or River tiles, or any transition farm tiles.

Config is like this:

[TilesToReplace]
96,97,121,134,155,156,157,158,190,191,192,193 (Those numbers are not real numbers, just examples)
[TilesToPlace]
2521,2522,-1,-1 (-1 means here that this tile place will not be changed, so it is not to be looked up in the L2 file).
2523,2524,2525,2526
2527,2528,2529,2530
2531,2532,2533,2534

And you will then choose the skip number, which means you dont want to put it in all appropriate places, but want to skip for example 2 places, then put it in the 3rd place and so on.

Why I'm writing this?

I need your toughts and ideas about how can we make this a more valuable tool for everyone. For example I like to see it works for 128 theaters too, and I think it will. What else can be done to improve it. ETA is 1 week or so.

Thank you.

I am finding this tool of great interest with possible use to randomize generic tiles without need to run terrain file through auto process in CATE. Few questions however as this was not found in readme.
What is the largest repeated patch area which can be handled by the tool? Can this tool handle more than 1 set of tiles? Can an random option be added to randomize distribution of new tiles , if so desired? And finaly , if one tile is being replaced by the patch of say 9 tiles (3x3) what happens to the old tiles, are they being replaced in this patch? What about if any transition tile will fall under the patch . Or any feature tile with path or area? What happens then?

Very smart tool . Keep on coming.

Hi Polak. Asnwered via mail. Here is a copy:

Largest Area ? errr. no limit. But it will take some processing time the bigger the area is. And, of course if there is no suitable area to fit, composed from the source tiles, no replacing may occur. Please be informed that this tool not only randomizes generic tiles, but it can be used to put in a big area created using google earth cropped tiles, randomly over the map.

Set doesn't have any importance. The tool works with tile numbers (tiles that is). Set is not important.

The tool doesn't look for any road / transition info. It just replaces the tiles. This tool is best used for like big plain, forrest or farm areas without any road / transition. If you put in road tiles as source tiles, thay may be changed.

Old tiles are not being replaced. Only the area in the L2 file is changed using the new tiles.

Regards.
