New Tool: Convert 4 byte L2 to 2 byte L2

Post by Phoenix711 » 2008-02-04 00:24:59

This tool, can convert your 4 byte L2 terrain file to a 2 byte L2 file. (And O2 file changes accordingly).

That way we can convert our 4 byte terrain to 2 byte, run CATE on our terrain, and then convert it back to 4 byte using LodFixer.

I've tested it with success on an 64 sized new theater. Converted L2 to 2 byte, run CATE (a lot of changes), converted back to 4 byte with lodfixer, run SPTInstall, seasonswitcher, go in sim, and no problems at all.

Cheers.

Blueprint and Zaggy Inc made one of these a long time ago...!? I guess you never caught it.

I just did it, because I really needed it.

Don't know about any other tool doing this.

I like your initiative! Are you any good at reverse engineering files? We need a TacEdit version to edit Allied Force .CAM, .TAC and .TRN files! ;)

In fact, you wrote down the format for those L2 and O2 files. Thats how I could make it.

But I will give it a try... No promises tough.

Note: I don't think I can write a TACEdit for AF, but maybe I can convert AF TAC to Falcon TAC. Then back to AF format.
