Airbase Leveling

Airbase leveling function to ObjectPlacer.

New version of SPTinstall used to build large Texture.bin (sets>255) theaters. It can be used with a regular theater:

How to LEvel Airbases:

First you need a TacEdit Objective export .csv (.cam or te_new.tac).
- In TE go to the Map View and de-select everything
- Then select View/ViewObjectives/Airfields
- Draw a rectangle around all the airfields with the mouse, it will highlight the area which should basically be the entire map
- Click on Export Viewed and save the file with Airbases.CSv.

(Make sure you export only the Airbases from TE and use that .csv.)

- Open ObjectPlacer 1.34 and load L2 file
- Select Actions/Level Airbases.
- Select the export .csv file you made previously

This should update your L2 which you can then use in the installer as per usual.

Ensure you test and recon all your airbases. I noticed some minor problems occur if the terrain around the airbase is quite a bit higher or lower than the airbase - - you made need to manually level some airbases by extending the distance around the airbase tiles to the same altitude. Fred might be able to better explain it but I suspect the ObjectPlacer subroutine but I suspect it sets elevation around the airbase, perhaps only one tile outwards which in a very few cases may not be enough.

Lastly, if you apply SRTM you may need to also redo the leveling - - or at least check to see if there has been any adverse effect.

@Ranger or BaldEagle:

Does the FFTInstall work with pcx based version of texture.zip/texture.bin or only .dds based theaters like FF?

CATE Levels Airbases

Post by ranger822 » 2007-07-09 22:02:58

@Snakman - not everyone knows how to use CATE or may need to. Israeli Theater was not leveled completely (before CATE?) . . . the tool provides a nice service for folks. It is available for use if needed.

@Sherlock - not sure. It works for Cobra/FF3.1 which has both file types in the install (though I think only the DDS get rendered. Baldeagle is the man to answer that question for sure.
