Someone to me Fred Bald Eagle made it, so you might contact him ? Think you can reach him on FreeFalcon forums. I think the TE part of TacEdit has been broken a while..... Maybe Fred would fix it for the general community ?

I think Ranger is correct. TacEdit is a Julian "Codec" Onions program.

Peled, what version of TacEdit are you using? Is it 2.46? That is the latest.

Sorry to poke my head in like this as I dont remember pretty much nothing about this heh but here goes anyways.

What I can remember, that is the Occupation map right? If so, then yes you can edit it succesfully in TacEdit, at least I did it several times.

That is how I recall it, dunno about any theater sizes and all that stuff. But I do remember using it several times. Hmm wonder if I wrote any tutorials about mentioning it?

I bet there is something in the code that will indicate map size - - maybe Julian never updated Tacedit for the bigger sizes. Since it appears all the 128x128 theaters have the same systemic problem. I wonder if something in the exe for Falcon might be re-coded to solve the problem from the front end instead of relying on Tacedit? I got to tell you I wish Codec would have open-sourced his code for those tools he made . . .

just to make it clear - i can Edit my Occupation Map succesfuly-the process is done there --just the Graphic is not shown properly or it restore itself after a TE again to a blank box--and we are talking about any 128x Theater size only !

did the Occupation Map proceed ran properly for you at all ?
large theaters seems to lack this step....
well , at least 'Nam Theatre & the Original ODS....
i am just playing with something and would like to know..... ;)

Hi Peled,
I think I figured it out.
I don't know about the original ODS (and I don't have the other 128 theaters loaded so I can't check them). But in order to make a theater occupation map do the following steps in TacEdit (assuming you already have all your PAK cities set, objectives imported, etc. This should be nearly the last step before the theater is ready to release):

1. Open up your save0.cam file and make sure your directory paths are all set correctly for the theater you are working on.

2. Campaign->Map->input a figure of at least as large as the figure given of 58,xxx below the "Map Size" field. Click on the "Set New Map Size" button. The map area should turn gray when you click. Click on the "OK" button to clost the map editor.

3. Select Insert->Build Occupation Map from the menu. Wait for it finish. Click Save when it is finished.

3. Click on Map again and you should now have a occupation map displayed in the map editor.

All I can think is that no one took the time to build the occupation maps in those theaters before they were released.

Hope this helps you!

yeh , that's excactly what i have done ,probably hundreads of time for several theaters , i got all PaKs etc. , but it refused to work , i mean the process is done , the map is shown just for once, but the map restore itself everytime...in any 128x Theater.....

Peled,
You are correct. After I posted I went back and tried to pull up the map again and it was "gone". So I guess it is a bug in TacEdit? Dunno.

Cheers!

Thanks Sherlock for this update !
So i guess that's a bug....not sure if that's related to tacedit...well...actually yes...probably some lack in the code for 128x Theaters....
Now-----that Map actually won't effect any Campaign , it's just a graphic...the question is if the procedure for the occupation map was proceed at all....
i am not sure if eighter yes or no it will effect campaign , since the PakMap was proceed succesfuly , and i got all parent links etc.-----anyway , the "Occupation Map" proceed should take some long time to be created for a 128x theater , while i just got it too quickly as it was a 64x theater....

that's my report....i guess nothing to do here.....for a 128x theater....

i wish we could get someone to fix that...

Thanks for your report Sherlock !

Sorry for the new topic I oppened, you can delete it SnakeMan. I was not aware of this one.

This is answering my question. Bug specific to 128 theaters, no way to get it working.

Thank you.

I just discovered something that may be relevent to this topic. In the Ultimate Theater Tutorial it says:

"- start pathmaker, select L2 file and texture.bin (both europe of course), now you must select the old 2 byte L2 file because PathMaker does not read 4 byte files. then select file -> generate .thr map. Save the europe.thr file into campaign\europe directory. "
[Bolding inserted by me for effect]

it says that the new <theater>.thr file can only be created by Pathmaker using the 2-BYTE L2 file. This is because Pathmaker only works on the 2 Byte format.

Could this be what is causing our problem? I am thinking that TacEdit stores the occupation map in the .thr file. Is this the case or does it store it in the save0.cam file?

I know that when I tried it (to verify what Peled was asking about earlier in the thread) I tried it on the ODS 4-BYTE L2 and, of course, it didn't work.

Occupation map is saved on the saveX.cam file.
