Korean Hi-Res Dogfight Theater

Post by JR » 2003-02-19 18:33:00

Hello, I'm a longtime F4 enthusiast here since early 90's and is well, [whispering since wife is in next room ;-) ] the chief reason I upgrade my hardware. Anyhow I'm actually relatively new to this web site amazingly and have recently upgraded my machine to the following:

Supermicro SC760A FT w/Antec True430W
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Athlon XP Barton 2800+ (2.083GHz)
1024M Corsair XMS3200LL
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Dual WD800JB 80G HDDs in RAID-0 on... Promise FastTRak100TX2...

With my present system, all current theaters run breathlessly and look amazing to say the least but the only one that doesn't run optimally and if you can believe, chugs quite frankly is the Hi-Res Dogfight theater and I'm wondering if I'm overlooking something here. My F4 SP3 settings are at max sliders, 32-bit 1024x768, all advanced graphic settings checked, Ultra 32-bit included. My thanks ahead for any insight as to what settings are to be tweaked to run this Theater,

set TerrainDetail slider to 3
go from there (if it runs fine turn it a notch higher)
that should make it smoother.

this theater by its Hires design will need a lower setting (if it is at 3 it is actually at 3*4=12 )
Terrian Detail setting @3 is the lowest one that will still show L0 so it is fine to use.

please report back on your findings
I am pretty curious at how your system runs it at settings 3 to 5

Widowmaker, ok here's what I get with Terrain Detail Slider set from 3-7:

All done in 2-D Cockpit and approxmate...

3)76-200 FPS (begins briefly at 75 then to 200)
4)62-76
5)43-50
6)35-40
7)25-30

Now I should mention that I am now running my rig at 2.255GHz (12.5x180FSB) @ 1.675v, all effortlessly and tested thoroughly with Prime95 Torture Test and I might add from reports this is somewhat conservative as to what this board, cpu can achieve. I am not overclocking video(Radeon 9700 Pro) however. It's still so amazing to me what this machine can do for F4, I'd love to discuss this further with you by PM etc lemme know as I'll be in most of the day...

thnx Terminator just the data I was looking for.
The results are what I expected (actually hoped for :) )

thnx for reporting.

any hickups more then usual when using setting 3-5??
Please try some high G turns (swiftly moving terrain) at 3000-7000 feet whilst looking at the horizon.
