Install

Read the readme in the release rar. Run the PMC_DesertStorm_Theater_v0.7.exe file and choose either RV/OF or AF install depending on your Falcon version. Remember that the installation takes a long time to complete and is extremely heavy on the system, be prepared not to do anything on the background and to reboot your computer after the install is complete. AF only users can now succesfully install this theater.

Done!

	Install

1) Delete any and all earlier Desert Storm installs.
2) Run the PMC_DesertStorm_Theater_v0.7.exe and choose RV/OF or AF.

Done!

Please take a notice that the LxNormalFix utility is very heavy on your computer, it will cause approx 780mb memory usage so if you're short on memory get prepared for very heavy swapping by win. Its most likely you cant do anything else while the installer run and then you have to reboot your computer. Also if you install to RV or OF there is additional SeasonSwitcher which takes long time to run also.

We are looking for bug reports and feedback. More details can be found at PMC Tactical forums in the ODS theater area where all bug reports should be posted.

We will answer all your questions and then some in the forum. If you do not have account in there, you need to email me so I can create one for you (new user registrations disallowed because of too many spammers). Email me to nospam address.

Here's another mirror in case it's needed:

http://dodownload.filefront.com/9304114 ... e78c7e335d

I don't know why filefront renamed the file. I didn't do that. It's the same file.

Thanks for the mirror. However I do understand that you didn't rename the file, but because its renamed I dont like it at all and wont add it to the mirrors list as I dont want any renamed files floating out there, so I have to go with the existing mirrors. I dont think anyone has any problems downloading it from those places.

Any idea why filefront renamed the file like that?

No. Only guessing it's related to the length of the file name.

If you are running the historical 1991 campaign LGBs were not available for the F-16 in that year.

the teather in question is "operation persian eagle" and the campaign is "black phoenix" !

is it an oversight?

RingoSurf wrote:the teather in question is "operation persian eagle" and the campaign is "black phoenix" !

maybe or maybe not. Theater development may not have progressed far enough to start considering using a separate objects directory so to achieve the different settings for aircraft or different aircraft, ships, etc.

so.. is there a simple file that I can replace taking it from another theater for example... or the situation is more complicated ?

RingoSurf wrote:so.. is there a simple file that I can replace taking it from another theater for example... or the situation is more complicated ?
It's more complicated. You have to have a separate objects directory and make changes to the squadron stores for a particular squadron to add back in the weapons you want to add and you might have to add the hardpoints back for a particular kind of weapon depending on whether it had ever been there before or not. You would use F4Browse utility to do all of this in. But be warned, you can totally screw up your installation doing this so back up your objects directory first!

ok then I think it's better to wait for your own updating...

Maybe someone can help me resolve a problem Im having installing this. Seems the install runs well until it finishes the terrain loading. It then loads another section (LxNormalFix.exe) and a windows error pops up killing the install.

(Object Placer and Checker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.)

I have tried it about 8 times, even turning off all firewalls and anti virus software. Last try had nothing but bare minimum windows stuff running.

Im running a dual core (AMD 64x2) running windows XP Pro Service pack 2 2.41GHZ with 3.50 GIG of ram.

Any help would be appreciated

From your picture it appears you are getting weather because you have clouds in the background. Am I not understanding your question correctly?

my question is:
is it normal to find clouds and differents weather conditions in ODS Theater? (falcon 4 AF)
(or it is a corruption of my installation)
thank you

It is normal to find clouds and different weather in all theaters. However, with large theaters (128x128) weather can be non-existant for most areas of the theater because the Falcon exe was only designed to address a 64x64 segment theater. This has been a very keen interest item of mine for some time now, i.e., weather (or apparent lack thereof) in the large theaters.

Now let me ask you a question. Have you done anything to your files to get weather to appear throughout the theater (i.e., in all four quadrants of the theater area)? Have you flown around throughout the theater and seen clouds throughout the entire theater area? I ask these because if weather appears, it usually appears in just the lower left-hand quadrant of the theater (or so I understand to be the case).

...the area involved is from arar airbase to quwait..

this is the first time that clouds appear after more than two mounths

it coincide with the installation of some skins modifying these files:
- koreaObj.TEX
- koreaObj.HDR
- koreaObj.LOD

is it pure chance?
are those files implicated?

thanks

Sounds like pure chance since the weather information is stored in the .CAM, .TRN or .TAC files (depending on whether you are using campaign, training or TE mode).

Note also that the area you were seeing clouds in is the lower left corner of the theater where I said the weather would appear (if it appears at all).

I'm trying to install 0.7 and I am getting the "No F4 installed" error so it will not progress any farther than that.

Edit: Ok, I've got the old F4.0 installed on my D: partition under the default Microprose naming of the path, e.g., D:\Microprose\Falcon4.

I had to delete the Microprose key in the Registry to get the ODS 0.7 theater to install (which it did successfully after I deleted the key in the registry). My Falcon AF is installed to C:\Program Files\Lead Pursuit\Battlefield Operations folder (also the default).

So it would appear the installer is getting confused when it sees a Microprose key in the registry but it isn't on the C: drive while at the same time it is seeing AF installed.

Yes this is a very good thing. Did you make any changes to your installation before discovering this? Or is it a clean PMC installation of ODS 0.7 beta?

Can you please zip up your campaign directory for ODS that the clouds appear in and email it to me? My email is lod_viper1 at yahoo dot com. Of course take out the at and replace it with a @ symbol and replace the "dot" with a "." I would like to examine your campaign directory files and try to figure out why you are getting clouds throughout the theater. Thanks!

You are running 0.7 ODS correct? Which Theater within ODS? Which campaign in that theater (1, 2 or 3 from the top)?

@ Ringo Surf:

Change your squadron

No, try to move your ground units to the major assets in kuwait manually. At least in Red Viper and Allied Force I was able to win sometimes with this strategy.

The Persian Eagle/Black Phoenix TRI file was never finished I believe. So that campaign will go on and on and never finish because it doesn't have any winning conditions set.
