Preview beta pics of next ODS/ME tile pack *eyecandy war

Post by T Bone » 2001-04-23 19:05:00

Hey guys,

Here is an updated pic of my latest work. I based these river tiles on some satellite pics and the ocean pics thanks to COMGP which I edited to match the ODS/ME sand. This shallow river adds a sense of dimension in that its lighter color makes it look like fresh water that is shallow while the deep blues of the Persian Gulf contrast this. It looks like a nice place to go fishing Image Overall the tiles are about at the halfway mark. You guys are going to be impressed as hell when you see the end product Image This work looks like it is finally entering the last stages. Tilemaking has been one of the most time consuming things I have ever been through. Soon I hope to move on to campaign design or quality assurance tiling and writting up a long readme on par with e109's.

Anyways... here is the pic. I reduced it to 1024x768. My screen resolution by default is 16kx12k so I will give you modem users a bit of a break on the load times today Image

Very interesting look T Bone. The "River" look is very good and one thing I forgot to mention in a previous thread about Gulf Terrain is the NUMEROUS gullies and wash's (DRY) that break up the terrain... You could use similar efects with different coloring to create slightly darker "low" areas where erosion has created terrain features..

Just out of curiosity, is there ANY impact on FPS in the edsert terrain? Just curious snce it should be very sparse of objects

Believe it or not, I have also created those erosion tiles that you mentioned Image The FPS in the desert should actually be quite high because:
1.) Objects more spread out.
2.) More repeating textures (*although we found ways to get rid of patters)
3.) Better campaign.

Try flying F4 in campaign mode over the ocean, you'll notice the FPS are higher since there are less textures to load.

Excellent Image This terrain has a lot things going for it..it can be very "Simple" yet extremely realistic at the same time with some perfrmance help for those with lower end systems..

Great work..I've tiled before manually and I know how that can be <G>

Hey, Tbone, great work, expetially the rivers, i like them, i forgot to tell you, do the vertical coast transitions to water, i still havent done them, that shouldnt be hard for you, if not its gonna be very hard to tile the persian gulf coast or it will look very repeating.

Hmm... didn't exactly understand above post about vertical transitions, could you be more specific?

X= ground
0= water

XXXXXXX0000000
XXXXXXX0000000
XXXXXXX0000000
XXXXXXX0000000
XXXXXXX0000000
XXXXXXX0000000
XXXXXXX0000000

0000000XXXXXXX
0000000XXXXXXX
0000000XXXXXXX
0000000XXXXXXX
0000000XXXXXXX
0000000XXXXXXX
0000000XXXXXXX

I hope you understand, i dont have time to upload a pic, sorry
