Help to build Desert Storm faster?

I was wondering, how many of you readers here would be willing to help tile (texturing) the Desert Storm theater?

I have the knowledge of working out pretty much anything with the theater files, but tiling is such a large task that one guy cannot do it alone (fast).

If you read my previous post from Falcon 4.0 area, you know that there is a chance of this theater to slip long into next winter if I need to tile this by myself.

Another thing about tiling, we have autotiling but its ugly and we cannot base Ground Campaign to that tiling as there are gaps in the roads and the units cannot move.

However I can have ugly terrain and bombing campaign for desert storm in hmm lets say in a week? but is this really what we want... at least I want quality.

Is it possible to do a level one beta using autotile? The tilers could then clean it up by hand. Not sure if it would look like patch work but could save a lot of time.

Well I can make nice "desert" with autotile, no problems but the important thing here is roads/rivers/citys. Autotile wont do them good enough, every city and river crossing is quite BAD with terrainview autotile.

But autotile + human road/river/city fixing for important places... that is faster than normal 100% tiling indeed. Important places are Kuwait, Iraq/Saudi border and nearby area. For starters we can almost ignore all Iran because in Desert Storm nothing was happening there.

Another small thing to speed up (auto)tiling is to leave out all rivers. If we leave rivers out then terrainview autotiling does pretty much perfect job with he roads.

didnt you check Vnam campaign? Snake Man already makes ground units roaring there.

Well no news about skins for the IDF and other Arab nation tanks. exept the great once you already gave me thanks. also i wating for ron nair team and few more great guys to finish my jet skins. yep tanks are perfect for my theater could be cool to find lots of them fighting in the sinai desert and all across the middle east Image
small scale you said is it possible to do that in a large scale?

At this moment I'm researching if we can have 64 segment map by using DEM 2 L2 Spherical Converter. My aim is to fit KKMC and most of Iraq into the 64 segments.

Its just that this converter is mad slow for the feature conversion.

Anyways, even if we use spherical conversion we will miss those large airbases used in the war.

btw my 128 segment desert storm test theater is like my Vlarge vietnam... campaign is running but no flights get scheduled. GRRR!

This is example of the spherical converter map. its the default (working) 64 segments.

Notice how we only can fit King Khalid Military City in this map... rest of the large bases are out Image

Damn I wish the 128 segment campaign would run!

IMO this is very good theater.The first 41 days followed USAF Col. John Warden's bombing strategy of targeting Iraq leadership centers in and around Bagdad. Also targeted were the CCC,comm networks,power grids,radars and supply lines. Bagdad was viewed as the "brain" the objective was to put a bullet in the brain and the rest of the body would die(saddam would pull out). Targeting the ground forces didn't start until late Jan. with B-52's. They were not effective in destroying tanks, so on Feb 5, 1991 Gen Buster Glosson devised a new method, he sent out a flight of F-111's equiped with LGB's. During the day, the Iraqi tanks had grown hot in the sun, at dusk/night they retained some of this heat, and were easily targeted by IR,lased and plinked. Once the Iraqi tanks were destroyed, the Iraqi infantry in Kuwait lost morale and then surrenderd in large numbers. War was over 10 years to the day on Feb. 28, 1991.

Ok its time to start this project.

I've made the texture.bin for Operation Desert Storm (ODS), 103 sets, 922 tiles. H tiles zipped 10.8mb.

Terrain files are setup for standard desert tile now (there is no green anywhere in sight), ready for tiling. theater + tdf files 2.8mb.

Excel sheet for tiling progress is ready.

Basic layout of objects are done with my modified procae program.

Everything is set, we are ready to go. Now we need the tilers to join up and help us out. Please Image

I'll be making update for the tiling progress charts to show ODS, also some small tiling tutorial (for ODS) will be appearing. But now all tilers should contact me by email at nospam - if you have just a bit of time to help us out, the sooner we will be flying around moving ground units in the Gulf.
