Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
In the Operation Desert Storm Theater v0.3 release there was problems with F-16 squadrons scheduling flights and basically there were only few to choose from.
Here is small 704kb update zip which fixes the amount of F-16CG squadrons that all default SP3 players can choose. Loadouts to the more realistic 1991 datas and some tiny adjusting for ground units.
This update also adds "few" more A-10 and F-16CG squadrons into the Black Phoenix campaign.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Unzip the ODS.v0.3.update.zip into your falcon 4 directory, make sure you have use paths selected in winzip/winrar (on by default).
Updates size 704kb, download from here

Heyya BrownSnake;
I was hoping to get more clarified on exactly where to put the ODS patch files, I dont see any of the file extensions in my theater-campaing section
Sincerely

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
Loadouts in the update--they look like they haven't quite been completed. LGB's haven't been removed from all planes (only F-15E, Buccaneer, F-117, A-6, and F-111 should have them). AGM-88 should be removed from F-16CG, as well as AIM-7 (for some reason a/c that used to carry AIM-120 now have sparrows fitted there, like the F-15 wing pylons...).
Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
I uninstalled ODS because of the lack of operations to choose from. I am about to download the new patch and will let you know how I got on with it. Many thanks.quote:Originally posted by Snake Man:

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
I know this must be a stupid question, but how can you tell what version of ODS you have? I am not sure if I have v0.3.
Thanks

This is quite easy.quote:Originally posted by swampy11:

If you have SP3 installation with working ODS, then its the one and only available version for SP3 and that is Desert Storm v0.3

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
this update IMO has done a very good job, thank you Snakeman & c.
really many tasks and many planes to fly with, very satisfying (who cares now about f117s? )

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
As far as I recall, the F-16 never carried the AIM-7. The AIM-120 was the only medium range A2A missile the F-16 ever carried. Maybe it carried the -7 in some test flights, but nothing more. I worked on the bird long enough. Any internet docs saying the 16 carried the -7 are bogus. As a matter of fact, the F-16 C´s and D´s still carried AIM-9´s. The CJ´s, if present in the gulf war may have carried -120´s. I worked on the 16 block 30´s at that time.
Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
Up to (and including) the Gulf War, the F-16 only carried AIM-9s. The AIM-120 entered service at the very end of the Gulf War, and was flown on a couple F-15s in the last few days of the conflict. Over the next couple years, F-16s were given the capability to carry the AIM-120.
The AIM-7 was test-fired from F-16s early in its development but is operationally carried by only a few aircraft. Taiwan, who was restricted from getting the AIM-120 (they may still be, not sure about this) has their F-16s outfitted with the AIM-7. The US also operated Sparrow-armed F-16As, in the form of the ADF variant. These aircraft (old Block 15s IIRC) were developed specially for the continental defense role, being outfitted with high-powered spotlights and IFF interrogators. They were operated by the ANG I think, but I believe most of them have been retired now. I think there are a couple other countries that operate Sparrow-armed vipers, but I'm not sure who they are.

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
Okay guys next update will contain F-16 squadrons ONLY with AIM-9 missiles.
But to avoid another "this is not right" posts flood, what models do I add?
P? M? etc, you tell me?

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
I think you are mistaken in the Aim-120 matter since there are pictures all over the net that were taken during Gulf War showing F-16s carrying Aim-120 mostly during Wild Weasel missions. Furthermore in Falcon 4, the information on F-16 specifically says that the Falcon achieved the first Aim-120 kill on an Iraq MiG-29 during the conflict. I think that the Aim-120 was available to F-16s for the Gulf War and even before that. I'm not sure however about the Aim-7 matter since many sources say that older Blocks carried it but I don't know if they did just for testing purposes. Also talking about missiles could someone add Python 4 to arsenal since Israeli F-16s carry the missile. Also a nice addition would be the AGM-119 Penguin anti-ship missile since Norwegian F-16s carry the missile.quote:Originally posted by icebrain:

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
Loadout design should be theater/timeframe/campaign-oriented, just my 2c.
Python IV best fit Israeli campaign in near future, while penguin better for Nordic theater.

A small number of AMRAAMs were carried by F-15 aircraft during Operation Desert Storm, though none were used. The AIM-120 was redeployed to the Persian Gulf in 1992 for use on F-15 and F-16 fighters. In December 1992 an F-16 pilot fired the first AMRAAM in actual combat, shooting down a MiG-25 Foxbat during a confrontation over southern Iraq.

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
I think the AIM-120 appeared at the end of the gulf war. It has been lauched three times. And it's possible some few F-16s used it at the end. (It's difficult to be sure. It's old in my head). But there is one thing clear, the Amraam shouldn't be available for the operation Desert Storm.
And other things, during desert storm, F-16s only carried 2 AIM-9 the most of the time.

Re: Update for v0.3 Desert Storm Theater
Godzilla is correct.
The F-16 carried AIM-9s for air to air and was mainly used in air to ground dumb bomb hauling.
The first AIM-120s were loaded in F-15Cs in the closing days of the war, and during the ceasefire observation missions.
The three AIM-120 kills (prior to Kosovo) were all made by F-16s.

Hello all
Awsome content and expansions you folks are providing.
I just dloaded the ODS theatre and grabbed the 704 fix for it aswell after I installed ODS i tryed a quik instant action just too peek at it and everything went smoothly.
I figured I'd patch it with the fix b4 i got to involved so I grabbed the files and put them into the designated folders went back into F4 and ( BTW I had switched back too Korea) tryed switching back to ODS and the main screen wouldnt switch over too the ODS backdrop also I heard a beep so I checked my desktop and I had an error message... lol I shouda wrote it down something similar too the error in the FAQ section...I reinstalled ODS with out the fix and it worked fine but Im a lil hesitent too put that fix in...any ideas?
