Re: New TacRef Editor
T-Rex - How dare you (or Skyfire) release a new tool without a proper name! ... so what is it called? ;-) Guess I should use this thread to plug the "TacRef Team". The "TacRef Team" is busy filling in the 640+ entries in the SP4 TacRef. If anyone wants to help out - it's a breeze with this new tool ...

Upon further investigation of the site, a much easier way to find what you want is via their decal search engine: http://www.eaglestrikeproductions.com/cgi-bin/amd2.pl
(most stuff seems to be for 48th scale)
BTW - Boy you're fast, just saw the F-4N in the #D toys thread!!

Too bad 'colourizing' grey scale imagery is soo difficult - there's a wealth of 1m imagery out there (and easily accessible).

Re: New Mig-29 cockpit
Aeyes,
I see it's been removed from Falconuk and F4community as well (if it ever was posted there). [Haven't been able to get into flight-sim.com last couple of days - glad it's sorted].
BTW you have my admiration for being able to 'stay dead calm' in this situation.

I'm sure if edzim doesn't request it be removed from flightsim.com, Aeyes certainly can by contacting webmaster@flightsim.com (he'll need to provide some proof that it's a derivative of his work of course).

Yeah (except for the last part) ... just taking the global 1 km land use data converting coords to produce a BMP suitable for CATE usage. (kinda wish I'd said that to begin with ;-)) Outside CATE is probably fine - and as I mentioned in my e-mail, might be best. My e-mail included a C program to go ...

Snakeman - I'd guess that if my method would work (really wish I was a GIS guy!) you wouldn't have had to spend the better part of the night adjusting the various land maps to the ODS theater. Re: Land Usage map
First, I must admit I've never used CATE, or created a theater (other than helping HAND tile Balkans), but my understanding is that CATE will take a colour-coded bitmap of a theater and use it as a key to automatically placing the proper tiles - correct? Now the USGS has a nice 1km resolution global...

Further info.... Looks like the USGS Land Use has 24 categories: USGS Land Use/Land Cover System Legend Many of which could easily be mapped to the various tile sets. Try: http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/glcc/euras_int.html The data IIRC is 1km resolution (hopefully good enough), with many different land cover types - you may need to modify/group them to use in CATE. BTW this dataset is available for the entire globe ... perhaps some functionality could be built into CAT...

Remember that that skinset used in SP3 is based on the squadron number (MOD(max_skinsets)) so that if Eypts squadrons are all even numbered and Jordans are odd numbered you could separate effectively that way. etc. Using IRL squadron numbers gets tricky....

Please send it. The TACAN list might be better since I'll be able to tell which airbases have ATC, and which don't.
We've got actors that have already completed Korea and Balkans airbase names, and are looking for others to do (but need pronounciation help).

Re: Small Panama Working (sorta)
Rather than having a 32x32 theater, couldn't you increase the tile resolution so it's 64x64 (but covering the same area)?
Isn't this technique used in Iceland?
[of course it might require re-tiling (with CATE?), tho]
