Flights not planable by human

Hello,
I have a serious problem. I added a number of squadrons into the israel theater via tacedit. When I enter the campaign I can use and plan about 80% of the units i created. But I miss 2 types in the Add package dialog. The KI can use these types and I can see the squadrons in the Order of battle.

For example:
I created three Mig29A squadrons for Saqual, in the "Order of battle" I can see them, but there is no MIG29A entry in the Add Flight or Add package dialog. The KI creates MIG29A flights and I can then fly them.

Any ideas?

Yes. First make sure that particular type of aircraft has been identified as flyable in the teplanes.lst file for the Israel campaign.

Then you MAY have to integrate the non-flyable aircraft into the ID system of the game. This means adding it to the different text files which end with ***.id

The procedure was laid out at FrugalsWorld but since it's been down I don't have access to the steps. sorry.


P.S. What is the "KI"?

I had a look at all *.id files I found during windows search but can't find any plane entrys.
I edit the teplanes before i wrote my question in the forum but without effect.

What version of Israel theater are you trying this with?

Hi all,

I am a newbie on this site - and have searched and searched to see if there was a previous thread or post resolving my problem - but have only found this thread which talks about a similar problem and so thought I should post my comment in this thread as well as in the Iran theater Thread.

I am having the exact same problem with campaigns in the Iran Theater.

You can see ATO's for the Mig 21's and for Mig 29's .... but exactly like the problem stated here .... when you try to add package, for any ATO for example, the drop down menu does not show Mig 21's or Mig 29's and so does not allow the option to create TO's for Mig 21's or Mig 29 within the campaign.

Would really appreciate any advice on how this can be fixed.

The solution was posted at Frugal's world forums about 3-4 years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't get a copy offline. Nows with Frugal's world offline, I have been trying to reconstruct the process. There are others out there who know about these things and I have been trying to get in contact with one and reconstruct the process. Once I have been able to reconstruct the process, I will post it. Until then please be patient. If anyone else can add parts of the process it would help things along. I have been able to get the MIG-29A into the dogfight section but am unable to find a way to put it into the campaign.

The Three file's that need to be manipulated reside 2 in the campaign folder 1 in the Art folder. The first is VALIDAC.act,the easiest way to do it in AF is to rename it xVALIDAC.act. Ala "FLY ANY PLANE IN AF", I think that is the Frug's post you guy's are refering to.
The second file is the teplanes.lst that Sherlock is refering to. That's a little harder you need to open the AF DataBase with F4BrowseAF and find the Squadron's Type,Subtype and Specific number's to punch into the TEplanes.lst.
The third is the "Licorice" file in Art folder MAIN.There you can add the Name of the AC so it show's up in the Dropdown List ingame.

However, that wiki process doesn't cover doing it for a campaign. I haven't been able to figure it out yet but I haven't put a lot of time into it either.

For Campaign the only file that need's to be edited is the Valid.act (open with NotePad).
The Type,Subtype,Specific number's are found in F4Browse under the CT File (@ the top of the Tree) for each SQUADRON!!
So you need to KNOW the Squad's CT # :wink:
I have a Header Template for Valid.act somewhere,I'll post it when I find it.

Hmm...validac.bin isn't editable in Allied Force. It's binary (or something) and it's only 1KB in size; not much in it in the way of information (certainly not a list of all aircraft in campaign). Back in 2007 I was able to add the E/F-18G Growler into the drop down list using the approach I identified above (which did not include editing the validAC.bin obviously). It was successful. Now, at that time, the Growler was already in the campaign but it was not selectable by the user. But it was tasked by the ATO and you could enter those flights and fly them one the ATO tasked the squadron. That's what made me think it was the same thing going on here as back in 2007.

No SM, I have not tried that. But it just occurred to me that I doubt it will work since the AF .exe is now programmed to read a binary validAC.bin file and not the older version text file.

the A-10 IS flyable (you can make a flight using the "Add Package" functionality) in AF by just renaming the ValidAC.bin file to something else (or deleting). It will automatically appear in the dropdown list when you do this to the ValidAC.bin file. What Snapper is asking about is that the MiG-29A will not appear in the dropdown list to create a flight using the "Add Package" functionality. It is in the campaign and the ATO plans missions for those squadrons in the campaign. You can even jump in those ATO planned flights and fly them. You just can't create them. That is because the aircraft in question aren't in one or more files correctly. But I can't remember the exact process to get them there.

Our problem is not the ability to fly any plane. We are flying any planes about 5 years...
Our problem is, that we dont know, how to add planes/squadrons to the campaign's rollout -right click + add package.
Here you can see Swizz MirageIII squadron located in Emmen:

In the "add package" rollout, you can see only Austrian F5A and Swizz F5E for neutral side. But there is also MirageIII squadron placed in campaign. So I need to add some MirageIII "identificators" into specific(?) files:

If I choose F5E, I can select between two defined Swizz squadrons. It is ok:

This was the neutral side. ATO is not tasking the missions for neutral side, so add package is the only option to take off....


But I can extend/enlarge the problem. I have placed 3 nationality Mig 29A's in the campaign - with Czech(ClassID-751) ,East Germany(ClassID-460) and Polish(ClassID-751 again) marks.
In this sample image, you can see, I can select only 3rd East German Mig29A fighter squadron located at Preschen in my "add package" rollout. So it looks, only ClassID-460 FulcrumA squadron is properly defined:

OK, this was the red side of the force, ATO is highly active and schedules the ACs to fly. But I would like to have "add package" funkcionality available for all squadrons. It is an essential function for good FoF multiplayer...

O'kay, Got YA' there. AF\BMS .exe READS IN a different file for the Add Package. Have'nt looked at it in YEAR's!!!! BUT will look at the AF CODE now and see where Codec was pointing at. Could be just a simple .txt edit I suspect!!! :roll:
On the other hand, Just for your INFO, the BOYZ at Lead Pursuit decided to HIDE their work from Microprose (and the Community) by using certain Naming Convention's and such. If you have the time and skill's it is pretty easy to find out what they had done.Scooby,Fred and a host of other's knew it,including myself,and have not said a WORD about it.
Those dayz are long gone,and I don't care anymore...SUE ME Julian!!!!!...HAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Now we are getting somewhere!!!!! I will try and post a tut on how to do it in AF\BMS (guess Y'all call it OF now) in the next couple day's. Just for now, "IF" your choosen Plane is not ON the list that the .exe READSIN then you WILL NOT be able to ADD PACKAGE it!!!!!!!!!).(Ahhh..has more to do with Squadron's...Sorry!!!) I will get 'er done soon!!!!!

just note - that unredeable text in lodeditor can be easily avoided by choosing "LP database" or something in preferences (I am not with my own computer at the moment, so can not check it).

The only thing's I can think of that would cause the Mirage, or any plane for that matter, not to show in the Drop Box would be :
1) It is struck out in the TEplanes.lst
Wrong:

Correct:

2) It has the wrong owner in Camp.

Those were the only two file's I could edit to produce the same result's.

Thanks demer,it helped in case of Mirage III.
It is stupid, i did not try to remove "//" (I did it 2 years ago with F1). But I was sure, I can add F104 package and this AC had also "//" in front of text string. The ITAFMk2_v151 Mirage3 has it in front of text string too. So I was a little bit confused. But now, it works. Thank you.

I was thinking about Fulcrum squadrons, but there is nothing to change/add in text row (not a single number is refered to classID).
So I did the simple thing - changed IDs of problematic squadrons to match the ID of Preschen squad. I hoped, other relations stay the same - I had experience, that squad stores are not influenced by such a change for example. And really, the squadrons appeared in the rollout (but markings are not changed):

Teams,relation's,equipment and color are defined and stored in the .cam,.tac, & .trn file's.
They are editable in TacEdit.

You should not have a problem with Squadron's "ClassID\CT#" in AF as long as you have Renamed\Removed the ValidAC.binary file. The Add Package text function is totally dependent on the TePlanes.lst and the lcktxtrc.irc file.. As well the Squadron (sometime's!!) need's it's "*" removed in F4Browse to make it functional in campaign.
I will spell it out here, in case some of us do not understand\remember.

The ValidAC.whatever, file control's what Squadron\AC type you (the Player) can join "IN CAMPAIGN" that is all.
The TePlanes.lst control's the rest. i.e. TE,Add Package..etc...........!!!
Be careful with the TePlanes.lst because you have to have your lcktxtrc.irc file updated to show your new AC.
As well you may have to re-name your new AC in F4Browse so that the CODE read's it in.

you got 'em I believe those are for the UI in AF.It has been years since I have looked at modding AF. There are plenty of people on this forum who have way more experiance with AF then myself.

Ok gentlemen .....

this is all getting a bit confusing for a newbie like me.

can any of you gents highlight if we have finally been able to resolve this question?

I'm not too sure we have for F4AF yet judging from the posts above ....

but any help with being aple to choose aircraft in Campaigns so that they can be ATO'd and appear in the Drop down list while setting up ATO's will be great ....

You are right visioninthedark, it is not solved yet.
But I think you can solve your own problem now.
If you have problem with MIG29, change the ClassID of your Fulcrum squadron to 460 in TacEdit.
This particular squadron is well deffined for "add package" function. Where it is? SOMEWHERE... :mrgreen:

This is quite common for F4 modding - its always nice to know right modding procedures and relations among files, but if
you dont know, try to find some backup solution. For other AC types, you can try all the ClassIDs for particular type and see, which one is fine defined. Of course, readable native F4AF cam (korea/Balcan) file would be very helpfull. We dont need it perfectly decoded - just to observe used objectives and squadrons at least. I quess it is already solved/converted, but I have not seen such a file personaly yet...

Edit: I looked at your post - you need also fixed Fishbed squad. I looked at my campaign, there is 21bis squad classID 2724 defined properly. I saw 21MF squad is missing in the rollout - so the reserch continues, I need to find working MF squad as well .... :roll:
I can just say the ClassID 1946 for 21MF does not have "add package" function defined.

Ok, I have also working MiG21 MF in the "add package" rollout.
Change your Class ID to 457 in TacEdit. You have probably 1946 now.

Luk .... I tried to do this yesterday but got totally Confused.

I started TacEdit .... but did not know which file to "Open" ..... where I can make these changes.

Open save0.cam file located in campaign directory. Then choose map wiev (on the left side).
Select your squadron and double click on it. Change class ID. Save it.

If you have problem to locate squadron, you can find it in default screen - there is list of active squadrons.
If you want to locate it on map, but still can not to find it (even after zooming):
Then choose wiev rollout -> objectives -> none. The same again with units - none. It will clean your screen.
Then click on squadrons icon -> you will see squadrons only...

EDIT: Sherlock is right - dont forget rebuild squadrons(i forgot to write it :oops: ). It is very important. Then save it.

If you have problem to locate squadron, you can find it in default screen - there is list of active squadrons.
If you want to locate it on map, but still can not to find it (even after zooming):
Then choose wiev rollout -> objectives -> none. The same again with units - none. It will clean your screen.
Then click on squadrons icon -> you will see squadrons only...

You also may need to "Rebuild Squadrons" after making a change to them. Menu selection is: Units -> Rebuild Squadrons

EDIT: Sherlock is right - dont forget rebuild squadrons(i forgot to write it :oops: ). It is very important. Then save it.
I tried all these methods to view squadrons in AF ...... with TacEdit ...... none of them worked ..... I could not see my list of squadrons ....

I followed each set of instructions precisely .......

help !

what am I not doing right?
