Fighting on the battlefield as Commander

User feedback got me thinking the other day and as well as I was trying it for myself for the first time, how about the Commander (you the player) fighting at the battlefield along with the AI units...

Right now in PMC Command Campaign you the player have limited team, in the first mission you only got one man in your "squad". In the later missions in Kolgujev you have two men. In Nogova we notch things up and you have cool Delta Force security detail assigned to you (I believe 4 Delta operators). There is not much a "force" in these numbers in the bigger picture.

So how many of you actually sit on the HQ ordering troops around... and how many is going into the battlefield to engage the enemy?

I might add more soldiers into the players/HQ's squad so he would have some capability on the battlefield... if you guys would like that.

When I have a large "HQ squad", I usually put them to good use. I might not immediately get out there on the front line on mission start, but as time passes, I often want to check in with the troops and see how and what they're doing.

Some uses for the HQ squad members:
  • Scouting/virtual FO:s. Give each 3-4 man team a Jeep MG and off they go.
  • Rear-area guards overlooking likely avenues of approach (flank "security")
  • I manually edit the missions and add support vehicles and have my guys handle the supply/repair and medevac.
  • Deep operations behind enemy lines. Air-drop them and have them mine roads, other nasty stuff or just do deep recon.  8)
Then, late in the mission when I need to be present at some decisive location to make the mission end, we regroup and do the victory parade  ;D

NB: The CoC "Unload WP" script and the helo lz scripts from the missions need editing to accomodate human-lead squads. (Adding a forced Action "GETOUT" or even "EJECT" for the former and conditional doMove:s for the latter so as to not lose command of my troops (the old "ALL, FOLLOW ALL" consequence of scriptically doMove:ing units under player command, something which happens after disembarkation using the helilz1/2/3 scripts))

Yeah a full 12 man squad is never wasted.
I always split em into three groups
lead the 1st up the middle with the other 2 groups flanking

I use the Delta team as bodyguards so I can get into position and accurately call down artillery fire on enemy tanks. The Deltas are devastating against small enemy patrols, so I just put them around me, facing in all directions, and then I call in the wrath of 155s on any tanks ;D .

I want a key like "jump to soldier" to play inside other soldier and not only as commander. I´ll never worry about be killed, and I´ll play with all the weapons I need or like (sniper, AT soldier, tank commander and soon).

AI always make shet. I want to put human´s brain in every soldier.

Starting a mission, I want to configure each available group as the MOD "capture the island" (without buying things). I can choose the best troops to win the game or make a dificulty. Who has a weak hardware can choose less troops and calls them if necessary.

That wouldn't be possible. Since you can't change a unit model ingame, then it would look really weird if your guy suddenly was carrying different weapons and in a different place.

I would use additional attachments for their action features. They allow me to more effectively control vehicles such as helicopters than even the CoC engine allows.

But as it is, I'm afraid I'm more prone to use soldiers detailed to me as my drivers and escorts. With all that goes into CoC, I rarely place myself any closer than the last objective captured. My officer doesn't (and shouldn't have to) fire a shot.
