Research / reference links for historical accuracy etc
This topic is about research / reference material like links, images etc various items we have and will have in VTE. It is my policy that I will not accept a plain link in these forums anymore as 95% of the cases the site goes down after X amount of time, so when you link, add the most important pieces of the linked site as quoted text, thank you.
Here is quick overview of the existing resource / discussion topics in OFP VTE v0.4 forum area.

"The MK77 familiy is an evolution of the incendiary bombs M-47 and M-74, used during the conflict in Korea and the war in Vietnam.", I have not found any references from globalsecurity/fas into M-47 or M-74. But its been said that VTE should use the M-47 designation for the napalm cannisters.

USAF/USN/VNAF
The United States Air Force, United States Navy and their South Vietnamese allies, the Vietnamese Air Force, fielded a large array of technologically advanced ground attack and bomber aircraft. These included the *Douglas A-1 Skyraider carrier borne propeller driven dive bomberm the Cessna A-37 Dragonfly, the Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter, Douglas A-4 Skyhawk carrier borne light attack plane, Grumman A-6 Intruder carrier borne all weather medium bomber and Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II carrier borne ground attack plane; the General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark Fighter/Bomber, the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress heavy bomber, Martin B-57 Canberra medium bombers and the English Electric/GAF Canberra B.20 medium bomber. This vast variety of ground attack aircraft used a large number of bombs.
The North Vietnamese Air Force in contrast fielded only a small number of aircraft on limited, largely unsuccessful roles. The majority of them were fighter jets, with limited ground attack capability. These included the MiG-21 jet fighter, the MiG-19 jet fighter, the MiG-17 jet fighter, the MiG-15 jet fighter, and the smaller AN-2 aircraft.
Mortars
VC used "81mm Mortar. Manufactured in North Vietnam and is a copy of the US 81 mm MI Mortar."

M19 mortar. The M19 Mortar is a smoothbore, muzzle loading, very light and simple, high-angle-of-fire weapon for light infantry support developed and produced in the United States.
The original M19 just had a simple spade-like baseplate, leaving the elevation and traverse free for the firer. This of course was too inaccurate, and the infantry initially refused the M19. A new mount, the M5, was developed, which used a conventional baseplate and bipod with elevation and traverse adjustment. This gave the M19 better accuracy, but made it heavier than the M2 Mortar with less range.
The M19 fired the same ammunition used in the M2 mortar, which it was supposed to replace. The 60-mm mortar is used by the infantry to lob explosive shells at well-protected hostile locations. The weapon can also fire illumination rounds to light up the battlefield at night, and smoke rounds to provide concealment during the day.

Ron here 4 my first post...here goes
M60D 7.62mm Flexible Machine Gun is a flexible, gas-operated, air-cooled machine gun having a firing rate of 550 spm (shots per minute). The M-60D machine gun is utilized by the UH-1, H-2, H-3, and H-60 aircraft. Depending in the specific aircraft application the M-60D gun system consists of the gun, a pintle mount (M-21, M-23, or DAS), and one of two basic ammunition storage systems. The first storage system consists of an ammunition can bracket that mounts to the gun or the mount, the bracket holds a single 200 round ammunition can. The second ammunition storage system is made up of a 500 round ammunition can and a flexible feed chute attached to the base of the mount. This aircraft gun has spade grips, an aircraft ring-type sight and an improved ammunition feed system. A canvas ejection control bag attaches to the machine gun to catch ejected links and cartridge cases, preventing them from being ejected into the path of the rotor blades or turbine engine intake. The M60D was used on the M23, XM29, M59, and the Sagami mount on UH-1 series "Huey", the M24 and M41 on the CH-47 series Chinook, the XM32 and XM33 on the ACH-47A "Guns-A-Go-Go", and the M144 on the UH-60 series Black Hawk. The M60D was classified Standard A

Would anybody find for us SA-2 surface to air missile with launcher references, here is what I'm looking for, one of these would be ok but in this priority order:
1) 3DS model
2) good blueprints
3) many and good color photos
Would be greatest if sthere is already existing 3ds model, preferably free one, if not then we would need blueprints... and even if that fails, then we would need good color photos. And I'm sure we can find photos, its just that its very very difficult to start to properly model from just a photo without measurement reference etc.
I mean I assume that nobody has done & released SA2 for OFP?

They train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write "Fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene!

All right there is little bit of confusion about NAPALM. The napalm we know present time is called MK-77.
Link: globalsecurity.org, fas.org and wikipedia.
Does anyone have any reference links for M-47/M-74?
Any pictures of real napalm cannisters in Vietnam era planes?
Any color napalm explosion images / videos?
Thanks for any help.

In vietnam, napalm was often combined with white phosphorus, giving this white "hair" to the explosion:I know this is not a napalm bomb but it's just to show the white things.
would be a nice effect to put in addition of the burning effect.
Now 2 videos (warning it's hard..)

Wikipedia has a source which states that these were used by the NVA/VC:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapons_of ... all_arms_2
F1 (Limonka) Grenade
RGD-33
RG-42
However, I tried to find other (more reliable) sources to back these claims up but could not find any.

Thanks commiejoe about the grenade data.
About bombs or air launched weapons.
We have now models for the following:
MK-74
MK-81
MK-82
MK-82 Retarded (fins fold out to cause drag)
MK-83
MK-84
BLU-82 Daisycutter
TOW missile (hellfire?)
M-47 (white phosphorous?)
M-117
M-118
FragCluster (?)
FAB-250
CBU-52
AIM-9 Sidewinder
AIM-7 Sparrow
Atoll
AGM-45 Shrike
Only exception is that MK-83, MK-84 and M-118 are placeholders (from MK82 and M117).
So what other weapons do we need?
Here is data from Wikipedia: List of bombs in the Vietnam War
Dumb bombs
CBU-55
Mk-77
Mk-82
Mk-82 HDGP
Mk-82 500 LB Bomb
Mk-83
Mk-84
Mk-15

Mk-22
Mk-38
Mk-117

GBU-12 Paveway II
GBU-27 Paveway III
Fuel Air Explosives
Fuel air bomb
BLU-82 Daisy cutter
BLU-118
China/North Vietnam
The North Vietnamese Air Force in contrast fielded only a small number of aircraft on limited, largely unsuccessful roles. The majority of them were fighter jets, with limited ground attack capability. These included the MiG-21 jet fighter, the MiG-19 jet fighter, the MiG-17 jet fighter, the MiG-15 jet fighter, and the smaller AN-2 aircraft.
Dumb bombs
250 LBs, 500 LBs, 750 Lbs, 1000 Lbs, HE
50-500kg, GP
BETAB-250
Fuel Air Explosives
500kg napalm
--- cut ---
Hmm there. Well there is few factual errors like the MK-77 listed and GBU-27 which came into service 1987 heh. Does anyone have any real factual list of bombs so we dont have to jiggle back and forth with the data?
Thanks.

I just did a quick web library search of my university's library, and they have a couple books that seem promising.
The naval air war in Vietnam / by Peter B. Mersky, Norman Polmar. --
Like rolling thunder : the air war in Vietnam, 1964-1975 / Ronald B. Frankum, Jr.
I will go check them out tomorrow and see if they have any more information about ordnance
