ITO2 for FF5

Hi folks -

Now that FF5 is in release I will be transitioning to ITO2-FF5. This is our next planned release. Once the planned FF5.1 patch has been put together the team will be going into full swing with beta testing ITO2-FF5. The main differences between ITO-Cobra and ITO2-FF5 will be in the interface and updated models using the DX graphics engine. Frame rates will be much higher outside the FLOT and about the same to slightly improved inside the FLOT. MOre later.

The good news is I have ITO2-FF5 currently running on my computer, so, once we run thru the models updates and a few hosue-keeping items I suspect the beta cycle will be rather short by comparision to the once we just went thru with Korea-FF5. No promises but that is my early prediction.

It has been quite some time since I last posted on the long overdue ITO2 release. First, for those who are not aware - FreeFalcon, with which I am associated, has released an update to FF5.0. FF5.3 was released last week and a few final tweaks are being made with the latest public input. Since I was directly involved with the DB work for Korea, most of time was consumed with that project. The result was I had to shelf ITO2. However, with the DB now locked for Korea, I have spent the past couple of weeks on ITO2 again and am moving forward at a rather brisk pace. Since ITO was released in Cobra some time ago, a lot of models and data has been updated. I am now going back thru ITO database and systematically upgrading models, skins, and various data to bring ITO2 up to the standard established by FF5.3. What does this mean? First and foremost, all the new special effects and model eye-candy that folks have come to expect from FF5.0 will be present in ITO2, new afterburners, new particle sys vortices, explosions, etc. I have also been adding/upgrading a lot of models; SR-71, Tornado, Eurofighter, Mirage 2000, etc. Additionally, we are working on some re-tiling and of course the campaigns are going to tweaked to resolve the last issues we have had with them. I haven't set a target date but I have performed my first DB rebuild in almost a year and so far it is looking pretty nice. There won't be nearly the screenshots and teasers as in the past. Instead, I prefer to spend time working thru the process and getting some released.

Regards,
Ranger

Well this is Israel Theater area here, its very appropriate place to discuss the current events of that theater, no need to redirect attention somewhere else. How ranger822 chooses to post info is up to him, all I'm saying this is very dedicated place for the theater in question.

This is nearly 2 years after the top post of Ranger822. Time is indeed flying very fast. Good news is that theater is very close to being released. Few more weeks  Really.

ITO2 for FF5.5.5 is currently being tested with Beta7f. We are indeed getting very close now to a release candidate. We have encountered some last minutes issues with airbase availability which we are currently working thru. Overall, many parts of the process have been completed.

1. New desert terrain
2. New airbases and airbase tiles
3. New ports and port tiles
4. New paths and areas
5. Mature models and skins database
6. functional Dogfight and Instant Action
7. Three Nimitz carriers with skin packages for specific time periods
8. Modern a/c Tornado ADV (RSAF), Tornado IDS (RSAF), Mirage2000EM (EGYPT), JAS-39A Gripen with cockpits
9. Six-Days War Campaign and new TE_NEW.TAC to allow building new TE's.
10. DB built for follow-on fictional campaigns and TEs.
11. DB built and tested for Historical Yom-Kippur War, Shlom Hagalil Campaigns planned
12. Comprehensive cockpit packages available
13. F/A-18C/E/F Hornet models built with new skins
14. Fully compatible with Aeyes F/A-18 Super Pit graphics if properly ported to ITO2 folders.

And much, much more.

Due to bandwidth limitations I suggest folks not already acquainted with FreeFalcon's new website interface - for recent updates and pictures there. If you haven't seen the latest desert pics you should check it out.

We still have no specific release date - our goal is some time this spring - God Willing! More updates to follow.

I also want to take this time to thank Snakeman for his website, creating an avenue for folks like myself, as well as his help over the years. For now, I am focused on the public release of ITO2 in FF5. It has been a long time coming.

I'm fortunate enough to be one of the beta fliers, and I have to tell you that this theater is mind-blowing. It is far and away the most revolutionary addition to FF4/5 ever...it's like Aeyes' widescreen F/A-18 cockpit applied to an entire theater!

I'm consistently amazed at the dedication Ranger has shown in developing this theater. I would have quit about 10 times by now.

I made a very small BLUEFOR/OPFOR campaign for it just to mess around, and it is just insanely fun to fly around in. The terrain by Polak is stunning, and there are just too many new things...big and small...to describe.

You could slap a $50 pricetag on this theater at Best Buy and people would buy it. It's that good.

I look forward to the release!

See ya,
Toonces
