New tiles for europe??

Post by Widowmaker » 2001-01-08 19:21:00

found this om F4terrain egroups
messages:

Just wanted to let you all know.

Hi everybody...I just found out some fantastic Terrain Textures that could be
Not only great but SUPER for one of the future release!!!
They have been made by Milan Lisner for FS2000 and belive me..they look exactly
as the real!!!!
I belive we could just change 10-15 farm/cities tiles with these ones...
Like Milan Lisner says in his readme:

>What you get:
>-------------

> - fields and meadows aren't so rectangular ( which isn't typical for middle Europe )
> - towns look more realistic - they haven't these big peripheries, which actually don't exist
> and also haven't so rectangular streets.

The texture come in a 256*256 pixel BMP format..
You can find them in www.flightsim.com searching for the tex2k_v1.zip and tex2K_v2.zip files
(the ones I'm attaching are just 6 comimg from the tex2K_v2.zip file.

Let me know what you think of it....but belive me...at least for Italy Slovenia and Austria
(these are the places I know best!! :-) they are 100 times better than the ones we're using!

Ciao from Francesco "MIX" Missarino

I'll definitely have a look at those tiles!! I'm currently in our house in Germany for some peaceful working, away from the office in Holland Image But while driving here I nearly hit a car cause I was more looking OUTSIDE the windows, taking notes of all the farms and green land and forrest for tiling than paying attention to the road! Made it here safely though.

I tried to search on that site for these tiles but it told me I had to register first? Anyone else had that?

Roger, copy and paste! Maybe there was an empty space at the end or something.. could you otherwise post a direct link to those files?

I just downloaded the above mentioned texture files and they look VERY VERY good!! I especially like the farmland!!

Is it difficult to covert these textures for use in Falcon 4.0??

Well it's not that difficult
just alot of work

-how many tiles?
-you got to group them up in packs of 16
-per 16 they have to have the same colorpallete
-rename them to H*.*
-run runtilesv1.1 to get the M L T tiles
-add tilenames in texture.bin
-add T M L H tiles in texture.zip
-make new fartiles.pal (maybey, depends on color usage
-and mend them to the other tiles you wanna use(Korea/Balkan)to get natural transition
-U might wanna ad some roads and/or rivers to them
-maybe you have to change the brightnes/lightning

(this is a random order of doing things just to confuse you (sorry)
all can be done quite easily yet it takes lots of time
I suggest you sort out your textures before starting any of these and get an Idea before
you are actually starting blind

read the manuals closely
everything is in there(in a way)

Still then you should change them per
tile set (can range from 1 to 16 tiles per set)
wich have the same colorpalletes
you can covert texture.bin in a texture.txt

you should give them the same names as in the Balkan.bin (Balakan texture.bin)
you still have to run runtiles1.1
and you still have to change fartiles.pal
(probably this depends on colour usage of the new tiles)

and probably the tiles will stil need editing
(lighter darker and such to fit the atmosphere)

If you just copy the tiles(after renaming them) you'll start crying I guess

Experiment alot
I wish you Good Luck

I am a lil confused now. Shall I first convert those nice farm and forrest tiles for use with Falcon 4.0 or shall I use the Balkans ones first and than later have to do everything again with the new tiles?

Tazz,
my 2c here.
since Europe theater, unlike Desert theaters ME or Nevada, whole new tile set is not the priority at present, use Balkan set will do.
Once it taking shape, you can replace some with better new tiles.
Surely its my humble opinion. some probably want to complete all new tiles before runing autotiling.

Well CCC is probably right in you case

Get your theater tiled with Balkan texture
and get new tiles in along the way
I'm willing to help you on that part but everrything takes alot of time so no promises

this way you can start on Europe
and rumour says Balkan will use those new tiles themselves in the future so the you can easily (after they included them in a beta) include them in your theater.
This maybey a long way in the future though
(or maybe never happen)

How much work is it to change farmland and forrest tiles with the new FS2000 ones after you're done tiling? There's a lot of forrest and farmland in the German theater and it would be a shame to have to re-tile 80% of the theater again.

I think it takes few munites(or hours) to change tile sets. Just replace the default tile sets, (run autotiling tool). run Tinstall again, then do some fine adjustment. Snake Man will tell you solid figures. Image

For now we dont know if Balkan team want to build FS2000 tiles into different tile type, or put them in the default types. No matter what they do, i think new tiles will be well aligned and renamed, and ready for European theater. Of course, colors/shades could be modified to fit Germany terrain later.

for all new "green" theaters, i think the best, easiest way to do the job is:
1.using default tiles for autotiling, 2.start object-placing ASAP. build campaigns, etc..
3.replace with new tiles later.

For my Falkland theater, I decide to rebuild it in this way...once 3d things and carrier op available..

Well if you create single farmland and forest tiles like in default Korea texture.bin, then the change for autotiling part is something like 30seconds or so.

However the actual tile creation takes some time.
