Europe needs new Texture art

Post by T Bone » 2001-11-23 00:51:00

IMHO the European theater really needs new artwork other than that damn oriental Korea crap.

If anyone is interested, I could offer some advice on creating terrain textures.

Right, since I'm new, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to get me to do it :) but I'd love some advice anyway, I posted an earlier question on this topic.

We definately need some new art...
I've managed to obtain several aero chart pictures, which are quite useable. Now all we need is tilers!

As for the Korea textures... the mountain textures would be useable for Swiss/Austria, the green stuff for South Germany and France.
Netherlands/Belgium/Denmark need a lighter green IMHO.

If any artists feel like lending a hand, please email me at javanree@vanree.net
Also T-Bone, please contact me, I've got a few Q's for ya :D

Javanree,

I emailed you a while back when you first starting asking for people to help out. I have some time that I can work on tiling or creating tiles. I am in the process of learning all the many features in Adobe Photoshop 6.01 and if I can be a help, please let me know. I have experience with tiling, but making the tiles would be new to me. I am willing to learn and am eager to help.

Besides tile resources from MSFS, here're stuff from MPS Gunship!

GUNSHIP! original terrain tile set

Use these as templates
for building your own snow, jungle, or ? terrain

=================================
This zip contains the 84 currently known terrain tiles shipped with Gunship. The format is 256 x 256 .pcx . Each tile represents an area approximately 250 meters square.

Note: These are hi-res screencaps, and are in 24bit (16m) color to provide the highest-quality starting point. They must be reduced to 256 colors after you edit them for Gunship to use them.

Nope. They are original tiles of Microprose Gunship! each one covers 250x250m area.

but we can take their "pattern", re-organize something for our use.

Hey CCC!
Yeah, I'm more or less back. Haven't you seen my mail on F4LE?
I'm still using my father's computer, but i overclocked it and put some of my RAM here, while mine (computer) is with a 'technician' (is it right?:rolleyes :).

Anyway, i transfered all my documents to this HD, and i can wokr on some stuff. Since this crap doesn't support any higher resolution then 800×600 (since i updated the video driver to try and play falcon), things get harder for me... But still i can work. My computer may be back next wednsday... can hardly wait!

I'm working with Christian on the Su-27 model, but if you want me to help you with skins, you can ask me too. :-)

Well.. That's it!
C'ya'll later.

BTW: Glad to see you missed me. Hunter!

If possible, i'd like you to update all skins of my 3d missile/bomb/rocket pod and related stuff. contact me or Jerry. most of previous skins are created in a very rough style, need professional, authentic textures, hmm, best like those created by Mike. (see his Pheonix missile? Mike is too buzy on his toys).

Actually, it might be worth everyone's while buying EAW and stealing some of their tiles...

With F4, Gunship, and EAW tiles as part of the artist's palette, I think the results might be very good.

And I doubt you'd have legal problems, since you are using MPS products all the way.

I can confirm that none of the Korea tiles can be used for Switzerland, not even the mountain tops. It looks different... I've seen it :)

And btw, snow isn't spread all over the place here in Switzerland (well, maybe right now a bit)... just for you info javanree :)

Hey CCC,

Send me some of your 'most urgent' files and I'll have a look at 'em.
I like Mike's 'weathered style' textures.
I have the terrible costume of making 'new' textures. See the CBU-87/97... (But hey! At least they have a shadow under the fins... :D)

The best tile material i've ever seen is from MSFS free resources. A while ago KBMIL or someone show me the link to a prized free tile pack, too bad the author wont let us share his art to non-MSFS sim. but we cant use the pattern/shades..with some modification he he, wait till this theater getting hot and i need some south american tiles.

I'd like to know how to make tiles!
Of course I would be happy if you could give me some advice, but I just started tiling ;)
I don't want to work with the korean pcx files. Are the gunship tiles ok? Just curious ;)

thanx
