Mountains

Post by Com_gp » 2001-06-20 16:38:00

Well, ive returned to my world, the tiles, im making much progress in the theater this days and i hope to release the first beta soon.

Ive done 52 new tiles for good mountains, i mean, something cool, not just some tile repeated 20 millions of times along the theater.

This is how they are going although i think i should have done (i probably will do it) a transition from the desert next to the mountains to the normal desert, i mean, a more red one.

Here are to pics of the mountains and although im starting to get bored of tiling im gonna finish it.

Hey there,

I'm now expert on mountains (the few times I've been to Vegas...well, I've either been too drunk or too penniless to notice), but those transitions look pretty darn good. From my memory, it really seemed like there wasn't much transition - desert, then mountains.

Come to think of it, I've flown over the mountains a couple times (once at fairly low altitude) and your pictures seem realistic to me.

Think of this as coming from someone who wouldn't know it was different if I wasn't told. Kinda like Korea - I've never been there, so I don't know how accurate that landscape is. All I know is that it looks real! Image

Anyway, good luck - it looks good.

Well, i have never been in Las vegas, hehehe, all i know is from books, photos, sat pics,...
I just think that the mountains should be a little darker maybe, i maybe change that, like more dark brown, im gonna see if i can get a pic.
Up to now ive done two kinds of mountains, the almost desert ones and this ones, i made a rocky ones but they sucked.
I just have to make the colorado canyon, well i have it done, just have to pass it to falcon and the dry lakes for Area 51, we maybe can play Idependence day (i dont like that film anyway).

I hope to release it within three weeks, i already have an alpha for the guys who are helping me with the theater, it has an installer made by Snake Man, i hope to contact with him before i release next beta so he can make update the installer.

And about the transitions..., well, i didnt thought of that but im gonna check it.
I have changed the brown to a less brown more dark, like in the photo, here are two pics.

I think the transition is about right - it always seemed really abrupt to me in real life!

Also, the only color change I would make is maybe more contrast. The darks in the picture seem darker, but the over all color is about right, IMHO.

Whatever you do, I'm sure it'll look great!
