ODS woes....

Post by Central » 2002-09-25 00:01:00

Ok, ive gone and done it now... I have been, for the last 3 weeks been trying to get the Pyramid ACP(anti cheat patch ) to work on one of my 2 installs of falcon. Now, I went and changed the directory name to a differnt name tried to start falcon, and now it asks for a disc... changed name back to default, still asks for disc. To make a long story short i put disc in, no response, I uninstall Balks, nev, ods, then falcon itself. However, there is one problem. Its stating ods is not in the default folder and cant install it. I delete the other folder thinking it will clr the problem. reinstall falcon, 108, sp3, balks, nev and now when i try to install ods its telling me "ods not in default folder" and will not continue with install... Are my favorite ODS days over??!! :( :( :(
Ive done a search for all possible files pertaining to ods to delete it, but cant find anything but the installer, does it install under a different name? whats the fix?
thanks

Take a moment and slowly go through the FAQ and all the info, all information of how to manually remove all registry/files of user broken ODS installation is there.

Good luck.

in my own experience, Falcon requires a disk whenever it can't find in the file system the directory that was created at install time. This directory is listed in the windows registry. Can't remember exactly which HKEY... section (I'm at work now) but you find it under .../software/microprose/falcon4. So, search for "Microprose". When you find that, go change the value for each key to the directory you are using. I use to change installs back and forth (have multiple installs) and sometimes have to reconfigure my O.S., so I do these changes quite often, and that works everytime.
Sorry to hear you did all the uninstall job, it doesn't matter for this purpose.
BTW, you have probably now a porked install, so better to make a clean start (including deletion of the keys in the windows registry that call for Falcon).

use windows Start -> Run -> regedit to CTRL-F search the theater string like "SP Europe Theater" or what ever is the theater name. If any matches are found, simply delete them, reboot your computer and try to install the theater again. You can find more details

what files am i looking for?? ive looked for ods and ab bunch of numbers came up.. searched for spods... more numbers came up... help!! lol :D :D

I'm still at work, will look for the names these keys have in the registry. However will take time before I can post an answer.
My advice is to search something meaningful, CTRL-F makes only a text match criteria, can be met by hundreds items if only few letters are given like "ods" or "ab". That makes sorting out the correct ones a mess. I would try something like "desert" or "storm", but can't assure you the key names contain those words. Try "desstorm" too, I found this a lot of times while viewing the ODS installer contents.

I did my search. Found under HKEY<some>/software/PMC TFW, I have all the keys for the theaters I installed.
ODS is actually listed as "Desert Storm Theater".
However, I'm puzzled. Why you see only numbers and letters? You should see a directory structure with all the keys within that. Are you really using the windows registry editor?

have you also followed the advice given in the FAQ about uninstalling theaters? That's here http://www.pmctactical.org/f4/cgi-bin/u ... 3&t=000089

Hope it helps.

I can make sense of your post IRT another thread. Anyway, I'm puzzled at the motives. Would perhaps SM listen to my prayers?
