Converting RV theater into FF5

Post by Snake Man » 2009-02-28 13:12:25

While opening this topic I'm still downloading the 1.2gb FF5 installer, however I wanted to open a topic already for discussing how to convert RedViper (RV) theater into FreeFalcon 5 (FF5).

This first post will be updated with quick summary of the conversion procedure when such data becomes available.

If you know any facts whats changed in database, skins, terrain, tiles or art/ dir stuff, please post here.

First question though, I read on FF forums that F4Browse wont read FF5 database anymore, is this true?

Why would you want to convert RV to FF5?

And, yes, I am reading that the database is encrypted in FF5 now. Why is a mystery. So much for "Free" Falcon.... :?:

Because its the new version?

Seems so, just tried F4Browse, cant read it. Also TacEdit cant read unit information, it just shows few units.

The database is no more encrypted than F4AF database or .cam files. Its just bit different format so current utils cant read it. There is difference between file format change and encryption.

Honesty I have to say this encrypiton issuse is one of the biggest false step in FF history. Almost all of my hungarian firends say "why we did this"?

Sorry. Stupid question on my part. I was having a dylexic moment. I read your original question as "How do I convert RV to FF5?" not "How do I convert a RV Theater to a FF5" ? :)

Well, the important question has already been asked here at the FF forums by me:

Seems like its quite controversy to change the file format a bit so it wont be read with old tools anymore (its NOT encrypted). In any case, if FF team wishes nobody edits anything in this version... fine I guess, I'll keep out and wait for new version and see what happens.

I'm off to reinstall RV back.

Its not an encryption, how many different ways you want to hear the same thing?

We have one (1) set of tools to open the database and campaign files, its possible to change the file formats enough to make the existing tools not to able to open them properly. That's whats been done here, files are NOT ENCRYPTED for crying out loud.

It was the same thing in Operation Flashpoint community when BIS released the binarize tool, it took the 3d model and optimized it for the game engine to use, now people started to call the binarized 3d model "encrypted 3d model", which was absolutely wrong.

No, PMC as a group/organization has been since 1984 and PMC Tactical has been online since 2000. When PMC was created, dunno if it was two years later when I bought my first Commodore 64, so PMC is older as a group than my computer hobby or rather lifestyle nowadays.

Yep bit offtopic ;)
