Hi All
I am new to the forum but registered long ago. Due to RL issues I was not able to pursue my idea of creating a Nellis range. My idea is to create a Red Flag range to train and fight in. The Nevada theater is ok but has too many airbases. The ranges are not modeled with static objects either. Nellis is the center of training for all of the USAF pilots. I was stationed there for 4 years. My idea for this is to model Nellis and some of the active bases around it as well as a working range with all the objects intergrated into the terrain. Now that the Nevada theater is out I have a question or two.
1. Would it be easier to modify it or create a new one?
2. Is it possible to include SRTM data in it and if so how?
3. I would like to change the airbase tiles some to create a more realistis view of Nellis.
4. In Nevada is the center of the theater on Nellis?
I am a noob so please don't flame me! I would like to make it work with AF and FF.
A different Nellis range theater?

Well, modify how? What do you want to do?chuckl wrote:1. Would it be easier to modify it or create a new one?
Personally I think Nevada theater if it covers the correct area, is good enough. I dont get the "too many airbases" issue, is there unrealistic airbases or?
Read PMC Editing Wiki - SRTM.2. Is it possible to include SRTM data in it and if so how?
Hmm was there a question?3. I would like to change the airbase tiles some to create a more realistis view of Nellis.
Ok assuming you meant how, well check this out PMC Editing Wiki - Textures as starters.
Hmm I dont know(?).4. In Nevada is the center of the theater on Nellis?

It isn't that there are too many airbases but there a lot of Muni aitports that are really not needed in theater. it is already hard to make sense of the map with all the light brown and all the labels in white. Is there a way to change the color of the labels? I was hoping to focus only on military airbases and more than anything else accurate elevations. Also to create an accurate range. This includes,
Areas Within Nellis Complex
Area 51.
Secret aircraft testing area at Groom Lake, 35 miles west of Alamo, surrounded by Nellis and NTS property.
Nellis Area II (also known as Lake Mead Base).
Facility adjoining Nellis AFB that includes a prison, munitions depot and high security storage bunkers.
Basecamp Airfield
On US-6 10 miles N. of Warm Springs, auxiliary airfield.
Indian Springs Auxiliary Airfield,
Indian Springs on US-95.
Nellis Range.
Exercise and testing area north of Las Vegas(Live Fire)
Tonopah Test Range. (This would be the static range)
Aircraft testing base and range support facility about 30 miles southeast of town of Tonopah.
Tolicha Peak Electronic Combat Range.
30 miles north of Beatty.
These area's are the heart of Red Flag but there are a few more ranges in California and Arizona that do occasionally get tasked.
